About Us

The Rosalind Project is named after the late Rosalind Franklin, who laid the foundation for modern molecular biology through her discovery of the structure of DNA. Rosalind passed away at the young age of 37 to ovarian cancer, which is believed to have been caused by the X-ray radiation emitted by the tools used in her research. She lived and died by her work. Considered one of the most significant discoveries of the 20th century, her contributions were not fully appreciated during her lifetime. Male colleagues later took credit for her discoveries, publishing a Nature article on the structure of DNA and subsequently receiving the Nobel Prize in their names.

Rosalind is one tile in the mosaic of countless women erased from history, including philosophers, scientists, navigators, engineers, artists, mothers, and leaders. It is this realization that drives the Rosalind Project to liberate women from systemic exclusion and constraints and to empower their mental, physical, reproductive, and community health through self-determination.

Core Mission

The Rosalind Project is a pilot non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the health, safety, & wellness of underrepresented groups of women and gender-diverse individuals. Our mission is to:

  • Bridge the health literacy gap through education & re-education on up-to-date research on the health of body and mind.

  • Empower women to engage in medical self-advocacy by providing culturally informed health knowledge and community-based support.

  • Promote social integration and foster societal attitudes that embrace gender inclusivity through journalism and archival memory.

  • Establish a health framework within local politics and advocate against misogyny in research, medicine, public safety and policy.

The Rosalind Project was started by three WOC with backgrounds in health and biomedical sciences. We drew passion from our own experiences and ones of the incredible women who have supported, mentored, and raised us along the way. Our mission is based on a blend of science, personal experience, intersectional feminism, and anti-racist values. We believe in inclusivity and welcome everyone into our community, including transgender and queer individuals, mothers, and those on their path to motherhood. We're here to face generational trauma together, always seeking solutions that truly resonate with the communities most impacted.

We want to keep you in memory & spirit.

In the fight for inclusion, we want you etched in history. We aim to celebrate and highlight our community figures, health professionals, scientific leaders, and every other woman under the sun.

We're piloting an internet-accessible archive of the sounds, faces, work, art, and all things tangible within the community of women in the Greater Vancouver area.
